LINCOLN'S EARLY LIFE RECALLED IN PIONEER VILLAGE DEDICATION
Days when Abraham Lincoln trod the soil of Indiana as a pioneer lad were recalled July 4, at a dedication ceremony for four new buildings, constructed by Works Progress Administration employees in the Lincoln Pioneer Village at Rockport. The ceremony was the climax to a Lincoln summer festival held at Rockport, beginning June 28. The four buildings are reproductions of structures standing in southern Indiana in Lincoln's Day, each of which was associated with the early life of the Civil War president. The buildings represent: The home of Daniel Grass, founder of Rockport. The last home of the Lincoln family in Indiana. A barter and market house The Pigeon Creek Baptist Church, attended by Lincoln's parents, where the lad is said to have served as janitor. Wayne Coy, Indiana Administrator of the WPA, made the dedicatory address. Others appearing on the program were: Thomas Finloy, of Madisonville, Kentucky, who brought greetings from his state; Prof. Ross F. Lockridge, Indiana historian and director of the WPA writers project; Harvey Chinn, Mayor of Rockport; Lieutenant-Governor M. Clifford Townsend, Democratic nominee for Governor, and Raymond Springer, Republican nominee for Governor. (This paper has been copied from the original.)
