The Rockport Journal, August 16, 1935 Article was typed as it was worded in the newspaper. Funds For Village To Be Raised By Dinner ENTERTAINMENT FROM FOUR TO SIX IS SPONSORED BY HISTORICAL GROUP The board of park trustees and Spencer County Historical Society invited the public to a big picnic supper party at the City Park from 4 to 7 p. m. on Monday, Aug. 19. All organizations and churches are donating the good food for this affair. It is to be a get-together of all persons, committees and people who are interested in our national Lincoln Memorial, The Lincoln Pioneer Village, which is now bringing a steady stream of tourists from many states. There is still a debt to be paid on the building of this memorial and every citizen should feel interested in their own home town to come to the park on this evening and enjoy visiting friends and eat a splendid meal. This supper is to be served cafeteria style and one may select their own food at a small cost. People who have relics to donate or loan for the furnishing of the cabins are urged to bring these things at this time. Supper will be served from 5:30 p. m. until dark. Come early, make a tour of the village and see what has been done so far in furnishing the cabins. Buy a souvenir plate or historic booklet of Rockport or other suvenirs on sale and help the good cause. People having cars should bring their friends and have a happy evening together.
